Petition – Salary Parity for Social Work Staff

Social Personnel have been proactive during the Covid-19 pandemic, attempting to the raise the profile of frontline Social Work staff as part of our #ThankYouSocialCare campaign. These individuals have been vital in providing frontline services to the most vulnerable in society, during one of the most challenging periods in our recent history.

While the NHS have (rightly) been very high-profile recipients of funding, public praise and attention those in Local Authority and Social Care settings feel neglected and overlooked. In July, an article was published in the national press reinforcing  the Chancellors commitment to honouring the Independent pay review bodies recommendations around wage rises of up to 3.1% for Doctors, dentists, teachers, police officers and soldiers. While this is welcomed and very well deserved, we believe that this should be widened to cover those individuals across Adults and Children’s Services who have continued to work tirelessly throughout this period of uncertainty.

Those engaged within Social Work settings provide vital support to vulnerable Adults both at home, in the community and in residential up and down the country, with their counterparts in Children’s Services work with some of the most disadvantaged Children and Young People in our communities. To ignore their commitment would not only be grossly unfair, it would also treat dedicated professionals as less deserving than their public sector colleagues.
